This Privacy Policy explains how WordSpeak (“the app”, “we”, “us”), an English learning app published by VietByte, collects, uses, and protects your information. By using WordSpeak you agree to the practices described below.
01/Information we collect
We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the app:
- Voice recordings. When you use the pronunciation practice or speaking features, the app records short audio clips of you speaking. This happens only after you grant microphone permission and actively start a practice exercise.
- Learning content you create. The words you save, your practice history, and your review schedule. This is stored on your device and used to power your personal study sessions.
- Basic technical data. Standard request information (such as your device type and, temporarily, your IP address) that any web service needs to deliver responses, apply rate limits, and prevent abuse.
We do not ask for your name, phone number, or social media accounts, and the app does not require you to create an account to learn.
02/How we use your voice recordings
Voice recordings are used for one purpose only: to score your pronunciation and give you feedback.
- When you speak, the audio is transmitted to our pronunciation-scoring server over a secure, encrypted HTTPS connection.
- The server analyses the recording, generates a pronunciation score and per-sound feedback, and returns the result to your app.
- Once scoring is complete, the audio is discarded from the processing pipeline. We do not retain your voice recordings for the long term, and we do not use them to build a voice profile or to identify you.
03/Data retention
Voice audio is held only transiently for the moments needed to compute a score, and is not stored for the long term afterwards. Learning content you create (saved words, progress) remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. Temporary technical data such as request logs is retained only briefly for security and reliability, then rotated out.
04/How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for advertising. We do not trade, rent, or otherwise disclose your voice recordings or learning data to outside companies for their own purposes. Information is used solely to operate WordSpeak and deliver the features you request.
05/Security
All communication between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. We apply reasonable technical and organisational safeguards to protect your information against unauthorised access, alteration, or disclosure. No method of transmission or storage is ever completely secure, but we work to keep the data we handle safe and to collect as little of it as possible.
06/Children's privacy
WordSpeak is intended for general audiences learning English and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
07/Your choices and rights
- You can revoke microphone access at any time in your device settings; pronunciation scoring simply stops working until you grant it again.
- You can delete your saved words and learning history from within the app, or remove all local data by uninstalling it.
- You may contact us to ask what information relates to you or to request its deletion.
08/Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “last updated” date above. Significant changes will be reflected on this page, and continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
